Understanding Our Healthiness Score

Our Formula

The NutriSnap healthiness score is designed to give you a quick, at-a-glance understanding of a food item's nutritional profile. It is not a medical assessment but an approximation based on publicly available data and general nutritional guidelines.

Our AI analyzes the nutrition label and ingredient list provided in your photo. It considers several factors, including:

  • Macronutrient Balance: The ratio of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.
  • Sugar Content: Especially added sugars, which are often linked to negative health outcomes.
  • Sodium Levels: High sodium is a common concern in processed foods.
  • Fiber Content: Higher fiber is generally considered beneficial.
  • Ingredient Quality: The presence of whole foods versus highly processed ingredients, artificial additives, and preservatives.

Approximation and Limitations

It is crucial to understand that the score is an AI-driven approximation. The accuracy of the analysis depends heavily on the quality and clarity of the image you provide.

Limitations include:

  • Image Quality: Blurry, partial, or obscured labels can lead to inaccurate data extraction.
  • Complex Ingredients: The AI may not always recognize or perfectly classify every single ingredient, especially uncommon or proprietary blends.
  • Context is Key: A single food item is just one part of your overall diet. A "healthy" food can be part of an unhealthy diet, and vice-versa.
  • Not a Substitute for Professional Advice: Always consult with a registered dietitian or healthcare provider for personalized nutritional advice.

We are continuously working to improve our AI models to provide more accurate and nuanced analysis. Your use of the app helps us gather more data to refine our scoring system over time.
